Celebrate the longer days through our newest group exhibition, IN THE TREES, welcoming the season’s return of light and life. On view through May 9, featuring artists Missy Dunaway, Ellen Granter, Nissa Kauppila, Genise Park, Julia Purinton, Peter Roux, Cameron Schmitz, and Gary Starr, IN THE TREES explores the curious life spent under canopies and in the air. Catch the dynamic patterns of scattered light through sharp branches, and the reverie of swaying foliage, in the paintings of Julia Purinton, Peter Roux, and Cameron Schmitz; be inspired by the camaraderie of flock life through the paintings of Ellen Granter and Genise Park; explore the fine, poetic, details of various bird species through the ink and gouache paintings of Missy Dunaway and Nissa Kauppila, and the hand carved wood decoys of Gary Starr.

IN THE TREES celebrates its opening with a reception from 5 - 7 pm on March 9, during which Gary Starr presents the history and process of decoy building, and his experience birding around the world; the exhibit remains on view through May 9. Eric Tobin's style and subject matter have a universal appeal, primarily because of his unique ability to capture the beauty of the moment, the light, and the setting. His love for his native Vermont can be seen in each of his works; they evoke the feelings of the natural setting in which he chooses to paint. All of his work is done outdoors, regardless of time of year, difficult setting, or rapidly changing conditions. By painting directly outdoors, Eric sees things he would miss from just looking at a photograph. In particular he tries to capture the landscape, the time of day, the season of the year, by the way the light plays on different objects.  I strive to paint the feeling of a place and particularly like painting in the winter, spring and fall, he says.

This Saturday, November 19, from 5-7pm, we're celebrating our second anniversary with a birthday party (hello, cupcakes!), and the opening of our second annual small works show, "short stories.".  Our gallery has been transformed as the literature-inspired installation of over 20 of our gallery artists hang in this eclectic exhibition, and we can't wait to see you and hear your reactions. Come celebrate with us this Saturday - our first two years have been so beautiful, and we can't wait to create and inspire many more!
