Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Jill Madden currently lives and paints in Weybridge, Vermont. Inspired by the local woods, water, snow, and mountains, her canvases examine moments of solitude in the surrounding environment. Trails indicate figures’ presence or
absence. The idea of nature as both playground and challenge influences her images, as does the ever-changing northern landscape. The work becomes part of the realm of imagination, built from the combination of sketches, memory, printmaking and drawing.
Jill’s work has been shown in New England, New York, Philadelphia, Ireland and England. She graduated Cum Laude from Middlebury College with a BA in East Asian Studies and received a MFA in painting from Boston University in 1999, where she held a Constantin
Alajalov scholarship. Jill received a Post Baccalaureate in Fine Arts from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and studied at the New York Studio School. She is the recipient of a Winsor and Newton Emerging Artists award, a Basin Harbor Fellowship, and a Custom House Fellowship in Westport, Ireland.
