Mahlon Teachout, a sixth generation Vermonter, attended Ringling Art School in Sarasota, Florida, during the early 1960's. He has been painting oil landscapes for the last 50 years, but because he could not support his family with fine art, he worked as an architectural and engineering draftsman and designer, a fishing guide, and owner-operator of Carillon Cruises tour boats until 2007.
It is only since his retirement in 2008 that Mahlon's painting has come to fruition. He paints, "en plein air", and creates rural Vermont scenes in a style that is uniquely his own.
